Dream Seventeen

I'm standing in court. I have been called to testify in my own defence. Witnesses have beed heard. Forensic evdence has been analyzed and presented.
I deliberately and maliciously caused the death of two individuals through electrocution. Their families are grieving.
I have found The Judge to be a fair man.
He asks me if I have anything to say in my defence. I cannot think of anything I could say that would allay anyone's fears that I might commit this atrocity again, or that would provide comfort to the bereaved. I tell the judge that I cannot think of anything to say.
The Judge sentences me to death.
I'm okay with that for a bit. Then, while walking away, I am terrified. Why didn't I defend myself? It's all gone for me. I am going to die.
I regain my composure. There will be appeals and sanctions and protests. I will have other opportunities to plead my case. I finally relax and wake up.
